Once killed, characters bodies remain on the battlefield until the end of the mission. Violence in the game is realistic in nature, with blood effects used frequently. XCOM 2 rated PEGI 16 for frequent moderate violence. These are worth noting if you are looking for this kind of experience on other systems: The combination of turn based strategy and squad tactics spawned a genre of its own with many spin off games from the XCOM mould. XCOM: Chimera Squad (2020) a budget standalone game on PC. XCOM 2: War of the Chosen (2017) an expansion for XCOM 2 on Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One XCOM 2 (2016) on Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One XCOM: Enemy Within (2013) an expansion for XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Android, iOS, PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360 The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (2013) on Mac, PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 XCOM: Enemy Unknown (2012) on Android, iOS, PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360 Then between missions you can train, research and equip for the next challenge. You can take cover behind walls and objects in the environment as well as save your movement for opportunity fire. You also need to carefully equip and use soldiers abilities to perform different duties. Tactics are important, as you can’t see enemies until you have line of sight. The long running series has come in many forms, but always has in common the finely tuned turn-based ground combat where you control a squad of soldiers to hunt the aliens. This is all I could think of, will check for setting up those "low" settings in DirectX, I'd just like to know what's your Operating System.X-Com (which became XCOM) is a science fiction strategic battle game where you control units to stop an alien invasion. You should also install DirectX from web installer (small file that compares what you have with latest version online and gets all you need), if you haven't done that already. Getting the latest sound card drivers and graphic card drivers might also be helpful. I think this might be DirectX problem, I've seen some fixes to the game's audio by simply setting up DirectX sound quality to "low" (or something like that - I'd have to check it when I get home).ĮDIT: This is no longer a thing in Windows 6.x+ (Vista+), DirectSound has been depreciated.Īnother problem you might be having is problems with files, either you should check you Steam Cache, or maybe there's a problem with your disk, like it's so fragmented game has the problem to read the files "in real time" - you might get yourself some defragment software (Stock windows defragmenter might be fine, but I prefer some specialized software, like O&O Defrag). You've failed to say what OS you have (I presume it's windows, since you've mentioned DirectX). I faced no problems with XCOM: Enemy Unknown or Enemy Within.Īny ideas? You're welcome to suggest another place for me to post this. I'm on an ASUS laptop and I don't have anything plugged in except my mouse. So far, I've fidgeted with the sound settings, I've set the graphics to minimum, and reinstalled directx and visual c++, all to no avail. Video card: GEFORCE 840m Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200U CPU 1.60GHz, 2301 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) I've never posted system specs before but here's my best description: 6GB RAM. I move the 'music' and 'effects' sliders down to minimum but have not observed any change. I should also note that I'm unable to change the audio settings in-game. It almost seems like they're being interrupted by the game. However, one interesting thing I noticed is that if I pause (esc) the game just as I receive the transmission before it cuts out, I can hear the whole thing while paused. This applies to any non-cutscene voice, whether in missions or in the strategic view (the base). To clarify: the voice files seem to be present, but they only play for a second before cutting out. Next is a problem I haven't seen anyone else describe, which is that any in-game voices (audio transmissions and such) only play for a brief moment before being cut off. I see many people have had this problems but none of the suggested fixes have worked for me so far. The desync builds up over the course of the cutscene, making longer cutscenes incomprehensible. First is the common cutscene audio becoming out of sync with the video, where the video stutters for a bit but the audio is unaffected, making the video fall behind. I just bought xcom 2 in the winter sale, but I'm facing two major problems with audio. So, I apologize if I'm not following proper etiquette (feel free to point it out). Allow me to preface this by mentioning that this is the first time I create a post on reddit, or any forum for that matter.
